How to Opt Out from MacOS or Public Beta Developers

If you are adventurous, you might be tempted to run macOS beta to try new features. But if you face stability issues, this is how you can opt out of the Developer and Public bands on your Mac.

Opting out of the MacOS or Public beta developer will only get you out of the beta seed channel. This means that you will not receive additional beta updates. This actually does not return your operating system to a stable version.

The best time to exit the beta program is after updating to the Golden Master (GM) version of beta. During the update process, you will see the text “GM Seed” in the macOS version name. In this way, you can update to the next stable MacOS build when exiting.

If you are fed up with beta and want to come back soon, you can do it by restoring your Mac. This will automatically download the latest stable version from macOS, and as long as you have a Time Machine backup, you can restore your Mac to normal.

To opt out of the macOS Developer or Public beta channel, open System Preferences on your Mac. To do this, click the Apple icon from the upper left corner of your screen, then select the “System Preferences” button.

Here, open the “Software Update” section.

From the left side of the screen, click the “Details” button.

From this popup, click the “Restore Defaults” option.

After you enter your device password, macOS will cancel your registration from the beta program. You will not receive beta updates in the future, but the current beta version installed on your computer will continue to function.

When the next stable version of macOS is released to the public for consumers, it will be able to install it from the System Update section in System Preferences.

If you are running iOS or iPadOS Public, you can leave the beta channel on your iPhone and iPad too.
